Guitar News

I started playing professionally at age 15 with 3 friends in High School. By the time I was 17, we had played a number of local clubs, ballrooms and dances across Northeast Iowa.

Bands

-- During the mid to late 60's, I played with a number of groups, mostly Top 40 rock 'n roll. During that time, I was fortunate to meet and jam with legendary guitarist Earl Hooker and the Soul Twisters blues band out of Chicago, Tommy Tucker, and even played with a 10 piece rock band called SOUL plus many other talented musicians.

-- During the early seventies, I was the lead guitarist for a band called Milk and Honey. In 2004 the band was inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

My First Guitar

Here's my first guitar. I wanted to be like Roy Rogers the singing cowboy.

When I was 15, I talked my folks into getting me a "real guitar". Here's me with a BRAND NEW Danelectro bass and a Sears Silvertone Bass amp. I switched to electric guitar shortly after this.

Experience

In the 70's, I taught guitar at Carlton Stewart Music in Waterloo, Iowa. I really enjoyed being able to help students develop the skills necessary to become a sucessful player.

Current Instructional Program

I stopped playing full-time professionally in 1976 to pursue a career in civil engineering but have continued to "jam" when I can.

Since we moved to Bella Vista in 2002, I have considered teaching guitar again and feel the time is right for me to pursue this. Therefore I am looking for a few motivated people that want to learn how to play GUITAR or BASS. I prefer students with little or no experience or someone that started learning years ago but would like to pick it up again.

My lessons are $17 for 1/2 hour plus $5.00 for an Instructional Lesson Book I authored myself. I prefer payment of one month in advance. Lessons are in the evening on Monday and Tuesday nights with times from 6:00 to 8:00.
